HVAC Tips for the Holidays

You may not have as many visitors due to COVID this holiday season, but you can still take the time to prepare your HVAC system for the winter season. Here are just a few tips that will help you prepare your home for the holidays.

Schedule an HVAC Inspection

While it's always better to have your HVAC system inspected in the fall before the cold season, it's still not too late to have a professional look over your system if you haven't done so already. It's a great way to find and repair minor issues before they turn into costly repair jobs. Even if there is nothing wrong with your system, an inspection can still give you peace of mind.

Turn Down Your Thermostat

If you are hosting a small holiday gathering this year, you'll want to be careful about turning your thermostat up too high. It may be cold outside, but the presence of a few extra warm bodies in your home should keep things comfortable on their own. Ideally, your thermostat should be set at 68 to 70 degrees in the winter. That might not sound very warm, but it will keep your home comfortable without running up your utility bill too much, and it will definitely feel warm enough when you have company over.

Dust Your Home

Dusting your home will improve the efficiency of your HVAC system as well as your air quality. Removing dust from your furniture and your floors will mean less dust in the air. It might even extend the life of your furnace filter since there won't be as much dust making its way through your ducts and vents.

Change Your Furnace Filter

Speaking of furnace filters, you should at least check yours once a month if you don't change it that often. This is especially important in the winter, a time when you'll be running your furnace more often and spending more time indoors. It will also improve your home's air quality for your holiday guests.
